It looks just like AutoCAD, but you cannot create or edit drawings just view, print and convert them to older formats. This application lets you view, print and convert drawings to older formats. Once installed the application will create the following icon on your desktop: This is a free viewer application which can be downloaded and installed from: Ĭhoose the Trueview option (not the free web viewer). AutoCAD obviously has a function where you can back save a file to older formats, but if you are a recipient of a newer AutoCAD file format and do not own that version of AutoCAD, how do you convert the drawing back to a useable form? Well one option is to upgrade or purchase a new copy of AutoCAD, but there is another free solution using Autodesk DWG Trueview. Every few years Autodesk changes the DWG file format to accommodate new features. I often get asked the question about AutoCAD not being able to open drawings created in newer versions. There is an alternative to this and more importantly it’s FREE… My colleague Dennis has detailed a step by step guide in how to achieve this. Having to then locate someone in the office who has the one copy of the latest AutoCAD to convert the file becomes somewhat of a tedious task. We " silently" push it to device and user collections all the time, and OSD has zero issues with the extraction window.AutoCAD versioning can at times pose problems for those who have received a drawing file which has been created in a more recent version of AutoCAD than the one they are using. That said, the extraction progress window does not interfere with the deployment. The only "problem" I've found is that I cannot for the life of me find a way to fully suppress the extraction progress window, it only lasts a moment but it ruins my idea of a "silent install". We check if C:\Autodesk\ is empty after the DWG folder is removed and remove it if it is.) (Add/Remove whatever "clean-up" method you want. Rmdir /S /Q C:\Autodesk\DWGTrueView_2019_Enu_64bit What wound up working best was a Batch file which ran: DWGTrueView_2019_Enu_ -suppresslaunch -d C:\AutodeskĬ:\Autodesk\DWGTrueView_2019_Enu_64bit\Setup.exe /W /q I can't speak to the Documents folder redirect but I have packaged DWG TrueView 2019 and found that running the self-extracting installer instead of doing the copy-from-temporary-files thing speeds up installation time dramatically. ![]()
